The word convergence means ‘coming together.’ The goal of Convergence is to facilitate the ‘coming together’ of:
People: For close to 2,000 years Christians, in celebration of the resurrection, have gathered on Sundays to study the Scriptures, to pray and break bread together, and to share in fellowship. Convergence recognizes that the gathering of the community is essential to the life of faith.
Faith and Learning: Drawing upon the gifts and training of members of the congregation, Convergence seeks to provide opportunities for adult education, spiritual formation, and equipping for ministry.
Daily life and Discipleship: Convergence exists to assist in preparing God’s people to live fully integrated lives as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Convergence starts at 9 AM on Sunday mornings, and presently has two groups: Prayer Group and Pilgrim’s Progress.
PRAYER GROUP, led By Rebecca Idestrom
The Convergence Prayer Group spends time praying for various needs, as we seek the Lord together. This group is open to anyone who desires to seek the Lord more in a small group context.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”
(Philippians 4:6-7).
PILGRIM’S PROGRESS, led by Brian Reynolds
As part of our theme for 2012, “On Pilgrimage”, we will be hosting two opportunities for you to join in reading and discussing the timeless Christian classic, “Pilgrim’s Progress”, by John Bunyan. It is regarded as one of the most significant works of English literature, has been translated into more than 200 languages, and has never been out of print.
You are invited to either join us during the Convergence Hour at 9:00am Sundays or drop in here at GSCC between noon and 1:00 pm on Wednesdays starting January 11. You can even bring your lunch, and we will put the coffee on.
This discussion group is an informal opportunity to read through this book and the Bible in a small group setting. It is also a place to share your insights and hear what others have learned. The book can be purchased through the local Christian bookstore, or on-line at a number of websites.
